Most of us know people who never settle down and live in several homes over the course of their lives. Other people may stay in the same home for their entire life and the home is left to their children when they pass. Most people though fall somewhere in between. They move a few times over the course of the years, based on downsizing, expanding families or job changes. Sometimes there are obvious reasons to move. In other cases, you may be very attached to your home and while you might not feel just right about things, you have not yet made the decision to change. If you are feeling frustrated and returning home each night does not feel comforting and relaxing, it may be time for a move. Recognizing when the time has come may be a challenge. However, if your home has been severely damaged, it may not be safe for occupying. Water damage can make your home a very unpleasant place. If a disaster has occurred, you may have stressful memories associated with the space, so get things fixed up and move onto a new home.

Very few people spend their entire lives working for one company anymore and a job change is one of the main reasons people move. If you have found a job in another city that pays better, you will need to sell your current home and relocate. If you have lost your job, there is a chance you will no longer be able to afford your mortgage. It is better to put your home on the market and find a smaller, less expensive place to live before things get worse. If you are job hunting, you may want the flexibility of renting a home instead of being tied down, so if something has happened with your work situation, it may be time to sell your house.

If you have moved into an area with a less than stellar school system and your children are nearing school age, it may be time to move. Sometimes school systems are adequate when you buy your home, but they begin to fail over time. In other cases, you may purchase your home long before you are thinking about having a family, but once the babies arrive, you will have different priorities. You can opt for homeschooling or private school, but this is not an option for everyone. If your children will be attending public school, you need to live near a quality school system.

If you have moved away from home because of school or a job situation, you may find yourself feeling homesick. Heading back to be closer to loved ones and the place you grew up is one of the main reasons for moving. A lot of people like to try a few years out on their own, but eventually want to settle down closer to where they grew up. If you think you would be happier living near loved ones after some time living independently in a different city, it might be time to move.

Finally, you may need to move just because it is time for a change. Following a breakup or a serious change in your life, you may need different surroundings. If you are feeling like you need a change and home does not offer the same comfort it used to, consider relocating.
