Charm City has been home to a variety of people over the course of its history. Just an hour north of Washington, D.C. and about a three-hour drive from New York City, this central Maryland city is one of the most well-known in the Mid-Atlantic region. The area surrounding the city was involved in both the Revolutionary and Civil Wars and today, the city is more cosmopolitan than ever. If you are considering a move to Charm City, there are a number of things to consider. The city is not without its faults, but if the positive aspects outweigh the downside of living in the area for you, it may be a great move that leads to a lot of opportunity. The area is home to some of the best hospitals in the entire world, so work in the medical field is plentiful. Caregiver jobs and CNA jobs are always available and provide a rewarding way to make a living if you are living in the area.

The city and surrounding metropolitan area has a lot of great schools. While city schools have seen a number of ups and downs over the years, some of the well-respected private schools are located in the heart of the city. Friends School, Bryn Mawr, Archbishop Curley and the Gilman School all offer top-notch educations and social experiences. A number of well-known colleges are also located in Charm City including the College of Notre Dame, Johns Hopkins University, Loyola of Maryland and Coppin State.

The area is filled with historic significance and if you are a history buff, you could live in Maryland for years and never reach all of the historical sites in the area. Fort McHenry is located near downtown and is the location where Francis Scott Key penned the National Anthem. There are a number of Civil War battlefields in the area and many of the neighborhoods near downtown like Little Italy, Fells Point and Mt. Vernon all have historic significance.

Maryland is often viewed as one of the most unique states in the country because residents and visitors have access to mountains and beaches, all within a day's drive of each other. Living in the central part of the state in Charm City means you can reach the snow-capped mountains of Western Maryland, ski resorts and wilderness hiking within three hours. Likewise, you can also travel to Ocean City and enjoy the boardwalk, golf, swimming, beach amusements and Assateague Island, all less than three hours away. Residents of the state love the fact that they need not choose between two vastly different terrains.

Finally, Charm City offers plenty of culture. The art community continues to grow and ethnic areas celebrate their personal culture with festivals and special events. Residents can spend their free time browsing museums, attending sporting events or getting social with an eclectic and interesting mix of neighbors. The area is friendly and seems like a small town that is often not found in a city of its size.
